Proper Handling and Disposal of CDs

The CD disc sets provided to Volume Licensing Customers contain a very wide range of Microsoft software products and should be treated with care. The disc sets remain the property of Microsoft at all times. To avoid theft, illegal copying or distribution, the disc sets should be kept in a secure location. Whenever possible, obsolete or unneeded disc sets should be destroyed. To properly destroy a CD, deface by physically scratching with a sharp object the labeled side of the CD. This will remove reflective coding underneath the CD label, which will make the CD unreadable by the CD drive. Scratching in either a spiral pattern or a series of scratches forming a square will ensure the discs are not usable. If you scratch the unlabeled side, you may or may not make the CD unreadable.
